Innovative Initiatives

Martha Jefferson nurses share a clear commitment to lifelong learning and continual improvement. We are proud to provide the following resources to our nursing staff to encourage professional development and reinforce quality nursing as one of the cornerstones upon which Martha Jefferson's reputation is built.

  • Martha Jefferson Advancement in Profession Practice "MAPP" Clinical Ladder
    • A five-tiered clinical ladder recognizes and rewards clinical nurses for demonstration of advanced competence. Experienced nurses enter as a Clin II and may challenge the ladder in their first year.
  • Orientation with preceptorship based on the Benner model
    • A guided orientation process in the assigned area with dedicated preceptors tailored for the individual needs of the participant.
  • Clinical Simulation Skills Lab/Computer Lab
  • Continuing Education
    • Multiple opportunities exist for advancing nursing education. Education assistance/tuition reimbursement is available. An on-site RN to BSN program is supported with scholarship assistance. Accredited provider of CEUs through the Virginia Nurses Association.
  • Active staff-nurse led Nursing Shared Governance
  • Dedicated Department of Nursing Education
  • Robust program of Nursing Research with fellowships to support time away from the bedside for staff nurses who conduct original nursing research.
