One in three. That’s the number of kids born after the year 2000 who will develop type 2 diabetes in their lifetime. The reason? Obesity among our youth. Tip to parents: Grow them lean and active.
If a person develops type 2 diabetes before age 30, their risk of having a heart attack is very high. Why? Diabetes causes inflammation of the artery walls (from all that extra sugar), and the arteries clog faster!! Tip: Keep glucose levels between 70-99 mg/dl most of the time.
The additive of the day: High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS). We know that the food industry adds this cheap sweetener to everything. A small intake is no big deal. BUT, recent research shows that consuming a lot of HFCS frequently may increase insulin resistance, and that may lead straight to type 2 diabetes. Tip: Avoid foods with a high content of High Fructose Corn Syrup.
Hint to prevent type 2 diabetes: up your intake of magnesium-containing foods such as pumpkin seeds, which are at the top of the list. Right behind are almonds, lima beans, spinach, garbanzo beans, barley and halibut. Tip: Eat foods high in magnesium almost daily.
