YES, diabetes is a killer – the #7 cause of death in this country. YES, it is preventable. So for the 57 million who have pre-diabetes, many can prevent diabetes from occurring in their lifetime.
Tuesday, March 24 is Diabetes Alert Day. Everywhere across the country there will be locations where you can have your blood glucose checked for free. Many of these events will be sponsored by your area hospital, so give them a call to see what’s cooking.
Here in Charlottesville, VA there will be two locations: the Walmart on 29 North and the Walmart at Zion Crossroads. From 11 am-6 pm our Martha Jefferson Hospital Certified Diabetes Educators will be testing glucose levels. You do not have to be fasting. It is FREE.
What should your readings be? Fasting glucose: 70-99 mg/dl. One hour after eating: less than 160 mg/dl. Two hours after eating: less than 120 mg/dl.
