Yes, the WEIGHT BEAST Can Be Tamed

I hear it over and over from postmenopausal women: “I am heavier then ever and I just can’t seem to lose weight.” Well, it may feel like that but the good news is that you CAN lose weight. It takes a different effort from when you were younger but you can drop those pounds, especially the ones around the waistline that increase your risk for heart disease, diabetes and cancer.

The key: shop healthy (keep those unhealthy foods out of your shopping cart), cook healthy in lighter-calorie ways (less fat, for example), and consider keeping a food journal, at least for a few weeks, so you can identify the problem areas of your diet.

Here is an idea to help with weight loss. Take a look at this shredded hash brown potatoes label. I found them in the refrigerated section of the supermarket. Just shredded potatoes – no salt added, no fat added.

Using these hash brown potatoes, here is an easy weekend breakfast recipe suggestion: Empty the entire bag of hash browns into a mixing bowl and toss them with 1 cup shredded reduced-fat cheddar or mozzarella cheese. You can also add chopped onions and diced lean ham, if you wish. Spread evenly into a casserole dish coated with vegetable cooking spray. Stir together 1 cup egg substitutes (or 4 eggs) and 1 cup fat-free milk or evaporated milk. Pour the egg-milk mixture evenly over the potatoes and bake in pre-heated 350-degree oven for 60 minutes. VOILA!! A potato-egg casserole that can be available for a quick breakfast throughout the week. And we all know that eating breakfast helps with weight loss, getting the metabolism revved.
