Controlling Dreams: Dr. Chris Winter Weighs in to Men’s Health

Dr. Chris Winter, Medical Director of the Martha Jefferson Sleep Center, talked to Men’s Health about the power of being able to control your dreams.  The concept has recently been a hot topic, thanks to the box-office sucess of “Inception”, in which Leonardo DiCaprio plays a character that can infiltrate the dreams of those around him.

Sleep Specialists and the NFL – Gaining the edge with ZZZ’s

Dr. Chris Winter, the Medical Director for the Martha Jefferson Sleep Medicine Center, has done a great deal of work studying how sleep impacts professional athletes. Martha Jefferson Expands Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery Service

Martha Jefferson Hospital has expanded its Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery service to include facial plastic and reconstructive surgery. Dr. Elizabeth Chance, MD, brings to the hospital her skills and expertise in reconstruction of facial defects following skin cancer removal, functional and cosmetic rhinoplasty, treatment of the aging face and facial trauma.

In April 2012, the hospital added aesthetic and reconstructive surgery to its repertoire of specialty service lines when Victoria Vastine, MD, and her well respected practice joined the Martha Jefferson Hospital family.

CBS19 Healthwise – TIA May Be Precursor to Stroke

Many people know the warning signs of stroke, and are able to respond quickly when a family member or friend is in need.  However, a transient ischemic attack (TIA), or often called a mini-stroke, may also be a waring sign, but is far more over-looked.

WINA Live Well – Spring Creek Family Medicine Opening December 1

The final touches and preparations are being put on Spring Creek Family Medicine.  On December 1, the practice will open to patients and provide healthcare services close to home for people in Fluvanna County and Louisa County.  Dr. Michael Sty, and practice manager Melissa Carroll spoke with Rick and Jane about what patients can expect and what goes in to starting a new family medicine practice.

Local Men Line Up for Martha Jefferson’s Free Prostate Screening

Dozens of men lined up an hour before the doors even opened for the 17th annual free prostate cancer screening at Martha Jefferson Hospital. The event, held Saturday, September 26 from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., drew a crowdof 342 men, an increase from last year. More than 30 percent of the participants were African-American men over the age of 40, a group of individuals that is considered at high-risk for prostrate cancer.
