CBS19 Healthwise – Big Stides Being Made to Reduce Readmissions

Martha Jefferson is set to receive an award this month for the work that the hospital has been to prevent patients from being re-admitted to the hospital once they are discharged home.  The accomplishment is a result of a great deal of teamwork, and overall, should ensure a better experience for patients.

CBS19 Healthwise – Heart Risk Profiler Helps Determine Risk

A new tool now available at Martha Jefferson is helping patients detect their risk for heart problems at an early age. It just takes a few minutes, and involves a simple online questionaire, but it could help protect you from future problems.

CBS19 Healthwise – Genetic Counseling Now Offered at Martha Jefferson

Martha Jefferson Hospital is pleased to welcome Martha Thomas, a certified genetic counselor, to our team.  Martha joined the organization in early May and will be providing both genetic counseling and genetic testing services to our community. CBS19 Healthwise – New Sepsis Protocol Benefits Patients

A new way of new things in the laboratory at Martha Jefferson Hospital is leading to better care for patients.  Recently, new technology was put in place that enables caregivers to provide screening tests for sepsis (a complication from an infection). CSB19 Healthwise – Improving Communication Thanks to Technology

If you speak a different language, or are hearing impaired, often times, a doctors visit might be difficult, and communication struggles may be common. Blue Ridge Internal Medicine is now pleased to be able to provide an easy option for interpretation thanks to new technology called NexTalk. With a few clicks, doctors are able to locate translators who can see the patient face to face, and make communication hurdles obsolete. Learn more in this week’s CBS19 Healthwise.
