Additionally, residents will receive training in CPR, BLS and will go though an orientation to the residency learning system (RLS).
*Certain electives may be coordinated with the University of Virginia Health System based upon resident need and availability.
Residents will be required to attend the ASHP Annual Midyear Clinical Meeting and will attend and present their residency projects at the Eastern States Residency Conference.
Residents will be required to complete one major project and several short-term projects throughout the course of the residency year.
The Service Component will be fulfilled primarily on weekends and holidays. This provides the necessary training to meet residency standard competencies. Residents will be assigned to work every third weekend, 3 holidays, and 5 additional 8 hour shifts throughout the residency year.
Throughout the residency year, residents will have the opportunity to provide education in the form of nursing inservices, medical staff presentations, journal club presentations, and continuing education pharmacy programs for both pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. Other teaching opportunities in which residents can participate may become available throughout the year.
