The New Martha Jefferson Hospital
Built On Our Caring Tradition“It is our aim to make this institution a blessing to this community.”— Dr . J. Hamilton Browning, a Martha Jefferson Hospital founder, 1906For more than a century, Martha Jefferson Hospital has been a special place in the Charlottesville community, having grown from a sanatorium to a world-class medical facility. And through all of its expansions, through times of war and peace, through periods of good community health and widespread epidemics, this hospital has beena blessing to the community. On Aug. 28, 2011, Martha Jefferson will make the historic move from 459 Locust Ave. in downtown Charlottesville to 500 Martha Jefferson Drive on Pantops Mountain.Although the move certainly brings with it some feelings of nostalgia for the old facility, the most important part of this great hospital — the people who make Martha Jefferson the top-notch healthcare provider it is — will be bringing their energy, spirit and commitment to excellence with them to the new building. It is truly the people, rather than bricks, mortar and steel, who give the hospital the solid foundation upon which to provide unparalleled care, using state-of-the-art technologies and the most advanced procedures. And it is those people, working in the spaces of our wonderful new facility, who are the key building blocks upon which Martha Jefferson Hospitalwill serve as a blessing to the community for the next 100 years and beyond.
