It’s a new month, and March is
National Nutrition Month sponsored by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
Throughout this month, the Registered Dietitians at Martha Jefferson Hospital
will be conducting a food drive to benefit the local Food Bank. Nonperishable
food items can be dropped off at the deposit bin right outside Martha’s Market
Café on the fourth floor of the hospital.

Hundreds of families are provide
food by our area food banks, and many folks simply would not survive without
this assistance. There are backpack programs that send our free lunch kids home
with food for the weekends.
A reminder – nonperishable food
means it does not require refrigeration or freezing to stay safe. So canned,
boxed or bagged items are usually good to go. Lettuce or apple – no; canned green
beans and applesauce – yes. Frozen fish fillet – no; canned salmon – yes.
