Look Out Stomach, Here it Comes!
Millions of Americans suffer from Irritable Bowel Syndrome or IBS. With this intestinal problem, people will experience gas, bloating and often diarrhea after eating certain foods. It is very uncomfortable. It is sometimes so problematic that people stop travelling because they never know if their gastrointestinal tract (GI) tract will “act up” and cause problems.Be in-tune to the foods that result in intestinal distress and begin to eliminate them. This can be hard to do if the foods are your favorites. Frequent GI-offending foods include raw and dried fruits, raw salads, gassy vegetables such as cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli and dried beans and peas, and very high-fiber foods such as extra-fiber cereals or double-fiber bread. Greasy or fatty foods, along with BIG meals, are not tolerated too well, either.Small meals made up of easy-to-digest foods can be the answer. Make substitutions such as eating applesauce rather than a raw apple, cooked oatmeal rather than a high-fiber variety such as Fiber One, and cooked spinach rather than raw vegetable salad. Soft, tender cooked foods are usually tolerated very well. Sometimes by dinnertime, a bowl of soup just hits the spot!
