Construction:
Inside
the OCC, rooms and even some finishes are taking shape. Work
on the 2nd floor areas (Outpatient Surgery Center, Physical
& Occupational Therapy, Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation)
has progressed to the point that wall paint is being applied
and preparations are being made to lay flooring materials.
On the 3rd floor (Women's Health Center), drywall installation
is continuing and primer is being applied. Preparation of
the walls will be completed within the next two weeks, according
to Donovan Jacoby of Bovis. Framing of interior walls is underway
on the 1st floor (Medical Imaging Diagnostics Center, Urgent
Care Center) in conjunction with electrical rough-in and plumbing
installation.

Exterior
brickwork is complete from the 2nd floor up and is 65 percent
complete on the ground level. The roof work is nearly completed,
with the metal roof installed and plaza roofs finished. During
the next week, workers will begin working on the well roof
(not visible from the ground) that will be made of a rubber
material.
During
the week of April 7, landscaping will begin. Overcup oaks,
sugar maples and willow oaks are scheduled to be delivered
by Ivy Nursery early next week for planting. This will allow
the trees to become established before the hot summer weather.
Operations/Staffing:
In
addition to OCC Director Barbara Elias, another key position
has been filled with the naming of Martha Hunter to be Concierge.
The position was designed around the concept of exceptional
hospitality that many fine hotels have built their reputations
on. Tailored for the needs of a healthcare facility, the Concierge
position at the OCC encompasses responsibility for all aspects
of guest relations and the smooth functioning of the building.
As Concierge, Martha will be in charge of training employees
to meet Martha Jefferson's customer service standards, ensuring
that customer service remains a top priority day to day, and
identifying opportunities for improvement. The Concierge also
will monitor patient satisfaction scores from surveys conducted
Professional Research Consultants of Omaha, Neb. In addition,
Martha will administer a system of receiving on-the-spot feedback
from patients and visitors. The OCC Conference Room will be
equipped with audio/visual equipment, and the Concierge will
be on hand to help presenters set up and troubleshoot problems
that might arise. "I am really excited," Martha
says. "The enthusiasm and commitment to make the OCC
a truly unique experience is contagious." She also will
lend support to the OCC Director in numerous other ways. Martha
has been with Martha Jefferson for 12 years as Operations
Supervisor for the Physical and Occupational Therapy Department.
She continues in that position even as she is transitioning
into her new role. The transition will be complete with the
opening of the OCC, and in the meantime, Martha - like Barbara
and other OCC staff yet to be named - will be wearing several
hats.
