Construction:
Visitors
to the site will notice that curb work is taking place in
the parking lot and is now about 25 percent complete. Workers
have almost finished placing the underground sleeving for
telephone data and computer communications. The Dominion Virginia
Power transformer is now operational and electricity is temporarily
being fed into the main building.
Crews
have installed about 40 percent of the metal roof panels,
they are about halfway through putting in windows and glazing
for the entire structure, and roughly 85 percent of the masonry
work is completed. Dry wall hanging in the second floor surgery
center is continuing, and that project is about to begin on
the third floor.
Ductwork
is underway on the first floor and workers are beginning to
frame the radiology rooms on that level. Crews also are continuing
their work on the massive foundation required for the MRI
machine.
Operations:
The
second floor of the Outpatient Care Center will house the
Outpatient Surgery Center, a joint venture between Martha
Jefferson Hospital and a group of physicians. The surgery
center will have three operating rooms, and 18 pre-op and
post-op rooms. It will be the appropriate venue for scheduled,
non-emergency procedures. Types of outpatient surgeries that
will be done at the new center include orthopedics, ear-nose-throat,
ophthalmology, urology, general surgery, vascular surgery,
gynecology and breast, plastic surgery and podiatric surgery.
Recently, the surgery center Board of Directors toured the
facility. William Grant, MD, chairman, commented, "I
am very pleased to see the vision for an outpatient surgery
center becoming a reality." David Sutton, a member of
the Hospital Board of Directors and the Outpatient Surgery
Center Board of Directors, said, "The formulation of
a joint venture company has created a unique opportunity for
the physicians and hospital to work together on what we expect
to be a very successful venture."
