Michael Trahan joined Martha Jefferson after six years as a surgeon and assistant professor of surgery at the Center for Weight Management, University of Texas Medical Branch (Galveston, Texas). He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Lamar University (Beaumont, Texas) and his medical degree from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (Lubbock, Texas). He completed his residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch. He completed the Fundamentals of Bariatric Surgery training course and the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES)-endorsed Laparoscopic Bariatric Surgery Mini-Fellowship Program. Dr. Trahan also completed the Lap-Band® System Workshop and is a recognized REALIZE® Band surgeon. He is board certified in general surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). He and his wife, also a general surgeon, have three daughters.

Alex graduated from University College Galway, Ireland, in 1991. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency in Albany, New York, in 1996 and moved to New Orleans for his fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine. Since 1999 he has been in Charlottesville and has worked as a hospitalist at Martha Jefferson, had a private solo practice and now is part of Martha Jefferson Medical Associates. His partner, Virginia, and children Levi, Daisy and Julian are his greatest loves, alongside his patients, that is.
