Sandhya Chhabra came to Charlottesville from Washington, D.C., where she completed both her undergraduate and medical degrees at Georgetown University. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Endocrinology and Metabolism at the University of Virginia, and in September 2005 opened Albemarle Endocrinology. Now with a bustling practice, her areas of clinical interest include women’Äôs health issues, thyroid disorders, polycystic ovary syndrome and endocrine disease in pregnancy. Both doctors, Sandhya and her husband Bobby, the division head at the UVA Orthopaedic Hand Center, enjoy spending their free time with one another and with their two children Vijay and Vaya.

Lisa Illig, MD, attended Luther College for her bachelor’Äôs degree and completed a master’Äôs degree at Drake University. She then completed medical school and residency in internal medicine at the University of Wisconsin. Lisa went on to complete a fellowship in palliative medicine at the University of Wisconsin, spending additional time working with the local hospice program. Board certified in hospice and palliative medicine, Lisa has been with Martha Jefferson Hospital since 2003, where she serves on the Cancer Committee and chairs the Ethics Committee. She is also a medical consultant with Hospice of the Piedmont. Her husband, Kurt, is a neuroscientist at the University of Virginia. Lisa and her husband Kurt have two children, Peter and Katrina.

Anna K. Baer, MD Anna K. Baer, MD

Dr. Anna Baer grew up in Danville, VA, before attending UVA for undergraduate training, medical school, residency and cardiology fellowship. She is board certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease and has been in practice for over a year. Her main areas of interest and concentration are noninvasive cardiology, women’Äôs health and prevention. Anna currently lives in Charlottesville with her husband and their three-year-old daughter. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, hiking and playing tennis.

Lewis V. Owens, MD Lewis V. Owens, MD

Dr. Lewis V. Owens has practiced Vascular Surgery at Martha Jefferson Hospital since 2001. He is a graduate of Dartmouth College and received his medical degree from the University of Colorado. He completed General and Vascular Surgery training at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. Dr. Owens is board certified in General Surgery and in Vascular Surgery. His wife, Kelly, is a board certified OB/GYN and is in private practice in Charlottesville. They have four children. Being a Colorado native, Dr. Owens enjoys skiing and is acclimating to the Virginia slopes.

Jonathan M. Ciambotti, MD Jonathan M. Ciambotti, MD

Joining the staff in 2005, Jon Ciambotti brings solid experience to Martha Jefferson Hospital. Jon earned his B.S. from the University of Pittsburgh and remained there for medical school. After completing radiology training at UVA and returning to Pittsburgh for a few years, Jon came back to UVA to assume the role of co-Director of the Division of Thoracoabdominal Radiology and the Division of Pediatric Radiology, as well as the role of assistant director of the radiology residency program. Jon remains active at UVA as the president of the Keats Society and as a member of the UVA Radiology Alumni Association. During his free time, Jon enjoys spending time with his wife, Barbara and their three daughters, Isabelle, Cameron and Bridget, and can often be found at Lowe's planning his latest home improvement project.

Anthony W. Spinelli, MD Anthony W. Spinelli, MD

Anthony Spinelli joined the Martha Jefferson Hospital medical staff in 2001. After graduating from Albany Medical College in 1995, Dr. Spinelli completed a radiology residency, followed by an interventional radiology fellowship, at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is a member of CRL Surgical & Radiology Associates, a multispecialty group dedicated to providing MJH patients with the highest level of medical imaging and surgical care. He is the medical director of noninvasive vascular imaging and the Cardiac CT Laboratory. While enjoying all that Charlottesville has to offer, Anthony is quite vocal in support of his beloved New York sports franchises. His favorite activity is spending time with wife, Laura, and two children, Cooper and Van.
