Dr. John Hall received his medical degree from the University of Virginia. He completed a residency in orthopedic surgery at the Atlanta Medical Center and a fellowship in hip & knee replacement at UVA. He and his wife, Stephanie, have two girls and a boy ages 8, 6 & 4. Dr. Hall loves to cook and his signature dish is macadamia encrusted mahi-mahi with risotto. In keeping with his attention to healthy joints, he loves to cycle. He and his family also enjoy camping. In 1995, Dr. Hall and his wife took a year off to travel around the world including destinations such as Nepal, New Zealand, Australia, Europe, Thailand and Tibet.

Dr. Lewis V. Owens has practiced Vascular Surgery at Martha Jefferson Hospital since 2001. He is a graduate of Dartmouth College and received his medical degree from the University of Colorado. He completed General and Vascular Surgery training at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. Dr. Owens is board certified in General Surgery and in Vascular Surgery. His wife, Kelly, is a board certified OB/GYN and is in private practice in Charlottesville. They have four children. Being a Colorado native, Dr. Owens enjoys skiing and is acclimating to the Virginia slopes.

W. Christopher Winter, MD Christopher Winter, MD

Dr. W. Christopher Winter has practiced Sleep Medicine and Neurology at Martha Jefferson Hospital since 2004, but has been involved with sleep medicine and sleep research since 1993. He is a graduate of the University of Virginia and received his medical degree from Emory University. He completed his Neurology residency at the University of Virginia and his Sleep Medicine fellowship at the University of North Carolina. Dr. Winter is board certified in both Neurology and Sleep Medicine. His wife, Ames, is an educator/administrator specializing in the English for Speakers of Other Languages population. They have three children. Dr. Winter enjoys not only participating in athletics but also studying how sleep affects athletic performance.

William Sukovich, MD William Sukovich, MD

Dr. William Sukovich entered the field of spinal surgery via an unorthodox route. In 1986, then a young and single chiropractor, Dr. Sukovich thought "there must be more to life than playing golf three or four days a week". He decided he needed a more challenging career and so he returned to medical school. Dr. Sukovich graduated cum laude from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. He completed his orthopaedic surgery training and subspecialty training in spine surgery at New York University Medical Center. Prior to joining the Martha Jefferson Hospital staff in early 2006, Dr. Sukovich served seven and a half years in the United States Navy, where he was a Commander and Director of Spine Surgery at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, Virginia. Dr. Sukovich will reside in Western Albemarle with his wife Kristen and their five children.

Gwen Kelly joined the Martha Jefferson staff after receiving board certification in Obstetrics and Gynecology. She completed her residency at Northwestern Memorial Hospital following her medical school training at Emory University and her undergraduate studies at Johns Hopkins University. After living in big cities for so many years, she moved to Charlottesville with husband Eric, who is completing a fellowship in Infectious Disease at the University of Virginia. Gwen loves taking her three children skiing at Wintergreen and believes that, if only the ocean were close enough to satisfy her love of sailing, Charlottesville would be perfect.

Laura Spinelli, MD Laura Spinelli, MD

Dr. Laura Spinelli joined the staff of Martha Jefferson Hospital as the medical director of cytology services. She completed her residency at the University of North Carolina in anatomic and clinical pathology with fellowships in cytology and hematopathology. She attended Albany Medical College following her undergraduate studies at University of California, San Diego. She enjoys running, biking, hiking and spending as much time as possible with her husband and sons.
