Simply put, children are expensive. Before becoming pregnant, look at your budget and decide if you can realistically afford a child. A few costs to consider: the medical bills of pregnancy, delivery, and childhood; health and dental insurance; food and clothes; childcare.
Have an honest discussion with your partner about how you plan to raise your children. You may want to discuss values, religion, childcare, discipline, and education, along with anything else that you and your partner are concerned about. Then together you can develop a plan on how to raise your children.
Having children will affect your life in many ways, and these changes will inevitably add stress to even the healthiest of relationships. If there are any troubles between yourself and your partner, settle your differences and/or seek relationship counseling before deciding to become pregnant.
Finally, consider attending a pregnancy planning class at Martha Jefferson Hospital. These Maternity Education Programs will discuss the impact that a baby will have on your daily life and hopefully help you decide whether or not you are ready to have baby.
