Treatments and Technology

It is not uncommon to find personalized, compassionate care at a community hospital. What is uncommon is to find the world-class physicians, treatments and technology that you find in the caring, personalized Martha Jefferson setting.

Among the specialized treatments and technology we offer are:

64-Slice CT Scanner

With Martha Jefferson's 64-Slice CT Scanner, we can capture high quality images at an incredible speed. This imaging tool is important in diagnosing and pinpointing heart attack, stroke and other neurological problems. In just one second this scanner can non-invasively capture the image of an organ, scan the entire body in ten seconds and produce images of the heart and coronary arteries in less than five heartbeats.

Electroencephalogram (EEG)

An electroencephalogram (EEG) is a test that measures and records the electrical activity of your brain. The changes in the normal pattern of the brain's electrical activity can demonstrate certain neurological conditions, including seizures.

Electromyography (EMG) and Nerve Conduction Velocity (NCV) Studies

Electromyography (EMG) and Nerve Conduction Velocity (NCV) studies are used by the neurologist to evaluate for injury or disease of muscle, nerve roots and peripheral nerves. EMG records electrical activity in muscle tissue, and NCV studies record the speed at which impulses travel through nerves and measure electrical responses. They are used to rule out or diagnose conditions that affect the nerves or muscles.

Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS)

Stereotactic radiosurgery is a specialized, noninvasive outpatient procedure in which a single high dose of extremely collimated radiation with multiple convergent beams is delivered to one or more brain lesions with submillimeter precision. SRS is delivered by a Varian Trilogy linear accelerator in conjunction with the Radionics XKnife RT System. The radiation is very tightly focused on the targeted lesion, with very minimal radiation to the surrounding normal brain tissue.
