Magnet Recognition

In 2006, Martha Jefferson Hospital received initial designation as a Magnet® organization by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), an accomplishment held by less than 6 percent of hospitals in the country

On July 21, 2011, Martha Jefferson achieved Magnet® redesignation by the ANCC. To achieve re-designation, hospitals must demonstrate sustained structures and processes to support exemplary nursing practice, as well as evidence of quality outcomes, new knowledge, and innovations.

Magnet® recognition is considered the “gold standard” of nursing excellence world-wide. According to the ANCC, “consumers rely on Magnet® designation as the ultimate credential for high quality nursing”. Magnet® is considered the “gold standard” for nursing excellence throughout the world. We are proud to be the only Magnet® hospital in the Charlottesville area.
